Asheville for the Weekend

The second weekend of my spring break Trey and I took a little vacation to Asheville to enjoy spring in the mountains and check out some of their craft breweries. We stayed in a tiny house that my friend Christy found when she and her husband went up there in January. It was the perfect size and really affordable. It was within walking distance to downtown and the neighborhood chickens even provided us eggs! It had a little sitting area when you walk in with a futon and a small table, a "hallway kitchen," a bathroom and upstairs in the loft was our bed.

We got to town Friday afternoon and got settled in our tiny house then took a walk into downtown. We stopped at Lexington Ave Brewery for a drink and some food.
Our next stop was by recommendation, Wicked Weed, a relatively new brew pub in town.
After Wicked Weed, we met up with my friend Jennifer and her fiance, Rick and went to Asheville Pizza & Brewing Company. We beat them in the huge Connect-4 :)

Saturday morning we went to Mayfel's for brunch. Their bloody mary's are delivered just as a glass of ice and vodka, then you go to their "make your own" bar and put it together the way you want it. They had a great selection of Eggs Benedict, one of Trey's fave :)
After brunch we went to Beer City Bicycles, it's a shop that sells and works on bikes, has a place for you to train, and also has quite a few taps of local beers. We enjoyed a beer in there while Trey tried on some sunglasses and Rick checked out all of their bike goods.
We headed out to Black Mountain to tour Pisgah brewery. They had some great beer on tap and we got to see behind the scenes. They are basically fully organic and don't bottle/can their beer, they only sell it in growlers and kegs, to reduce their carbon footprint. Pretty cool.
After Pisgah, we headed to Brevard to see the new-ish Oskar Blues Brewery. Oskar Blues is from Colorado and they recently started a brewery in Brevard, to reach out to the East Coast. This place was on a whole new scale. HUGE. Mass production of craft beer. It was pretty awesome. They don't bottle, they can, so we got to see a huge canning line and learn a few cool things about the brewery. They print the date canned and a little message on the bottom of each can, and on pi day (3/14) they printed as many digits of pi as they could fit!

After hanging out at Oskar Blues for a while we headed back in to Asheville to find some dinner. We stumbled upon Hana, a Japanese hibachi & sushi place... it really hit the spot!
We walked around downtown for a while, did some shopping and stopped at Chocolate Fetish to get some dessert.
A long day of brewery tours and day drinking wore us out, so we headed home early. We didn't have a TV in our tiny house and we didn't really have a need for it, but the Final Four was on Saturday night and when we got in bed Trey decided to stream it on his phone... until he fell asleep about 5 minutes later!
