Spirit Week at School

Last week was homecoming week at school. It was bustling with all kinds of events. The theme this year was Back to the Future, aka back to the 90s. Leesville opened it's doors 20 years ago so we were celebrating the 20th anniversary throwing back to 1993. All of the dress up days were pretty good so we enjoyed showing our school spirit:

Monday: Preppy vs Grunge

Tuesday: Twin Day (all of the staff wore our pink breast cancer shirts to support one of the teachers who recently began treatment for breast cancer this month)

Wednesday: 90s character day... the math department was Beanie Babies! Great turn out

Thursday: Throwback Thursday... unfortunately I had thoroughly planned my outfit and was super excited, then remembered that I had an off campus workshop that day :(

Friday: Green out! The Math department came up with these awesome shirts this year. Don't mind the lovely face I'm making

A Master of Education :)

It's official... I am a Master of Education. I graduated with my Masters from ECU on May 11, 2013.
Here is my name in the program:

My diploma finally came in the mail....

Woohoo!

Lately

I haven't been doing too much exciting stuff lately to do entire posts about but here's a glimpse at my summer right now:

Babysat Speckles & Bailey for a night

Went out to ORO for Kimberly's birthday... it was really good!

Took Vegas on another "therapeutic visitor" trip to Independence Village... she loved it!

I spend a little time each morning hanging out with these two looking out the front window

Had playtime on my bed

Cleaned, cleaned and cleaned some more

Played LOTS of frisbee

Caught this squirrel getting in to our compost bin

Oh and dealing with this....

One would think that the above email (and the 10+ others saying things along the lines of "congrats... see you at graduation...") would mean that I was actually graduating with my masters on May 10th. Well yes, I completed the classes, and yes I filled out all of my paperwork and sent my money to get my license updated. But interestingly enough I have yet to receive my diploma. I contacted the registrar's office... and sure enough I wasn't "graduated" yet... The problem? MY ADVISOR FAILED. He did not turn my graduate summary (a piece of paper saying my classes and that my degree is completed) in to the registrar's office. So 2 months to the day after all of this paper work should have been done I am the one calling people, emailing people and hoping and praying that this process hurries up. Luckily the lady at the registrar was nice and easy to deal with, emailed the department chair and he completed this piece of paper and sent it to her about 30 minutes later, she sent my transcript on to the licensing department at school and I then contacted them saying get a move on so that hopefully my license is updated and the paperwork is complete to get my pay raise by August!

In 6-8 weeks my diploma should come and I can finally post the blog I have waiting in drafts that my masters is official... with my frame that arrived 2 months ago with the diploma actually in it!!

Oh and to end on a happy note... celebrated Trey's last day on the golf course! He is moving on to the "corporate world" and we're pretty excited

A Weekend of Celebrating

I don't think I've ever had more celebrations to attend in one weekend than we did this weekend.

Friday night we started the weekend off by heading out to Sadler and Katherine's house to grill steaks and enjoy smores by the fire in their backyard to celebrate his birthday.

Saturday, I officially graduated with my Masters in Education from East Carolina University! I didn't go to Greenville for the graduation but my friend who did (for her sister's) sent me a picture of my name in the program... it's official:

Mom and Dad treated us to lunch at McCormick & Schmick's along with Chad, Nana and Mammaw to celebrate my graduation :)

Later that afternoon we headed to my aunt's house to celebrate my cousin Patrick's graduation from UNC and his cousin Erin also graduated from NC State this weekend so we had a big celebration for both!

After Patrick's celebration we topped the night off at Christy and Jonathan's house to celebrate him also graduating from UNC! Christy went all out and had an awesome party to congratulate him... topped off with a Tarheel cake:

Sunday Trey and I spent the day running errands and being productive around the house... the typical Sunday at our house: laundry, brewing and cooking:

We also picked fresh strawberries! They are delicious. But all the picking and plant touching made me break out in a rash for a few hours... no fun.

After getting a few more plants and things, Trey finished up some yard work that I will share tomorrow and we finished the weekend off celebrating Mother's Day with my wonderful mom.

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday: Art

Check out this awesome artwork on the side of Jason's Deli (Brier Creek) created by Leesville Students! It was revealed last week and is supposedly going to be added to many more Jason's Delis!

Baby Shower at Work

One of my co-workers is having a baby in August so our department threw and end of the year luncheon/baby shower for her! Our resident party planner did a great job, we all ate tons of food, showered her with plenty of gifts and had a great time!

Excited about her handmade quilt!!

Decorations

Yummmmmmmyyy!

Lots of gifts!

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week

One of my co-workers told me about this video, which is pretty hilarious:

I thought it was rather entertaining.

On a "happy" teaching note, we do have some pretty awesome groups at school that have provided us with sweet teacher appreciation goodies all week like cinnabon one morning, an ice cream social one afternoon, mountain dew in our boxes (thanking us for all we "dew"), moon pies in our boxes (because we're "out of this world"). It is always nice to feel appreciated and our PTSA and other booster groups definitely show us that.

Happy teacher appreciation week to my other teacher friends!

PROM!

Friday night was Leesville's prom and Trey and I went to chaperone. It was held at Marble's Kids Musuem downtown. Marbles is a nice place to have something like prom or a wedding reception because you don't haev to decorate much! They already had some paper lanterns up because they were having a function the next night, so all that had to be done was to put out some centerpieces on the tables.

The theme was vintage circus, so for food they had mini hot dogs and hamburgers, popcorn, cotty candy and smores!

Centerpieces

Some of the food

It was a long day because we had school that morning, then professional development in the afternoon then downtown standing on our feet all night. We had a good time and enjoyed seeing the students all dressed up and so excited to be at prom.

He loves to make crazy faces in our pictures
Trey and a couple of the other husbands left about an hour or so before it ended, they had their fill and went to Tir Na Nog to have a couple of drinks. After finally getting all of the kids out of there we were able to go join them but were so tired after a drink we were ready to head home. It was a fun night, and definitely worth the effort but I'm glad it's only once a year!
