Anniversary Photo Album

I saw this idea somewhere online when I was coming up with Trey's present and decided to give it a try... we will see if it lasts! I bought a photo album to put a picture of us in each year on our anniversary and to see how it changes over the years. 

I have pictures of us from before we were married so I decided to add them to it too. I used picasa to write the location and date on them and have printed them all out and added them to the photo album! 

2008: This was taken on our trip to the British Virgin Islands, my senior year of college.

2009: This was taken  at the NCAA tournament (Trey's birthday gift) in March.

2010: Don't mind my hair that was flying in the wind, this was taken April 15, 2010 at his cousin, Jonathan & Riley Weeks' wedding - exactly 1 year before ours!

Anniversary "year 0" - our wedding:

The goal is to have them all around our anniversary. This year I didn't get one of us together on our anniversary, even though we were all dressed up and pretty, I should have had the waitress take our picture. We did take a pretty good picture when we were in Disney World, about a week before our anniversary.

Biltmore

On Sunday morning Trey and I decided that we didn't want to just head back home yet, so we decided to go to the Biltmore House! It was a gorgeous day and perfect weather to be out there. We purchased headsets to get the audio tour for $10 each and it was well worth it. It gives way more information than the booklet you carry around and it was pretty cool to learn about the house and the family that built it.

After we toured the house, we went out to the gardens. It was the middle of their flower and garden festival, which I guess means more flowers than normally are there. It was definitely pretty, but just having been at Epcot's flower and garden festival gave us pretty high standards and it did not compare to Disney.

The estate is HUGE. It is just crazy, one wing of the house, made up of 4 bedrooms is over 1900 square feet. That is bigger than our house! And the grounds are huge, it took us 20 minutes to drive out when we left! I can't imagine how long it took people to access the house back in the early 1900s.

Best Firkin Beer Festival in Asheville

Since prom was Friday night, we got up Saturday morning and drove to Asheville. My parents and grandma were already up there, heading to the Biltmore. We took the dogs to the RV, had lunch and let them play for a while before leaving them in the RV while we went to the Best Firkin Beer Festival at Highland Brewing Company. It was out in a field next to the brewery, a bunch of different (mostly local) breweries came out and set up tents along with a few food vendors and the Brother Wolf Animal Rescue group, that this was a benefit for.

Firkin is another word for cask, so most of the beer here was casked and barrel aged beer (not a normal keg) but they also had kegged beer.

The only beer fest I have been to before was Beer Fest in downtown Raleigh, that is much bigger than this and you don't really have time to sit down, so we didn't think to bring chairs but as we got there we saw people in line with their lawn chairs. We got in and realized that we would definitely want our chairs to sit around in for a while, so we went back to the RV quickly (it was only 10 minutes away!) and came back with chairs this time!

We put our chairs in the middle of the field area, got a beer and sat to watch the band that was playing during the festival. It was a very unique, old time band, some of their instruments were a saw and a washboard! We hung out, enjoyed the nice weather and as we ran out of beer we would get up to get more, trying a new one each time.

Mom, Dad and Nana came to pick us up when they were done exploring the Biltmore. We went back to the RV to feed the dogs dinner and decided that for dinner for ourselves we would go out to eat downtown. We brought the dogs, because Asheville is awesome and very dog friendly, to Asheville Pizza and Brewing Comapny. Tyson was a little weird at first, he didn't quite know what to think, as he has never gone to a restaurant before. Vegas, however, loved it right away. They both made friends with the people around us, begged for food and got lots of kisses. We had their Biltmore Pizza - it was basically pizza with every topping imaginable.. it was pretty good! And of course enjoyed the beer that they brew right there.

By the time we got home Saturday night mom and I could barely get the bed made before Trey was asleep! It had been a long day! And luckily we didn't have any bed hogs to share with... they slept with their grandma and grandpa (as usual!)

Wordless Wednesday: While I Drove to Asheville

PROM!

Friday night was Leesville's prom and Trey and I went to chaperone. It was held at Marble's Kids Musuem downtown. Marbles is a nice place to have something like prom or a wedding reception because you don't haev to decorate much! They already had some paper lanterns up because they were having a function the next night, so all that had to be done was to put out some centerpieces on the tables.

The theme was vintage circus, so for food they had mini hot dogs and hamburgers, popcorn, cotty candy and smores!

It was a long day because we had school that morning, then professional development in the afternoon then downtown standing on our feet all night. We had a good time and enjoyed seeing the students all dressed up and so excited to be at prom.

Trey and a couple of the other husbands left about an hour or so before it ended, they had their fill and went to Tir Na Nog to have a couple of drinks. After finally getting all of the kids out of there we were able to go join them but were so tired after a drink we were ready to head home. It was a fun night, and definitely worth the effort but I'm glad it's only once a year!
